FTC Disclosure

Whenever a blogger could potentially be biased due to a financial interest in products or services about which s/he is writing, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that the blogger disclose that financial interest. This makes it clear that a blogger's recommendations and/or opinions may be financially motivated.

Since it is both personally and professionally important to me to build trust in all my relationships, including that of blogger and reader, I wanted to explain this anyway, regardless of any federal regulation. In the spirit of transparency, I want to inform you that there are elements of ThrivingIntoRetirement.com that are monetized. Many businesses exist to provide value to the consumer, and in exchange for that value, consumers typically pay a fair and reasonable amount in return. While there are no fees associated with using ThrivingIntoRetirement.com, the Website may be monetized by a combination of affiliate links, which I explain in the next section, and advertisers.

If you follow an advertising link, and/or otherwise purchase a product or service from one of our advertisers, ThrivingIntoRetirement.com cannot be held liable for any issues you may encounter with that company or its products and services. We also do not warrant, nor can we support or service, any such products or services.

Affiliate Disclosure

I am required to inform you--but again, I would state this anyway in the spirit of transparency--that ThrivingIntoRetirement.com contains affiliate links. What this means is that if you follow a link on this site and then purchase a product or service from that company's Website (from within that link), it is possible that ThrivingIntoRetirement.com may receive a small commission for referring you to their site. The price of the product or service is the same for you--or sometimes better--whether or not you purchase it through one of these links. Also, there is no cost to you for simply following the link.

Think of this as a nice way of supporting a business that is adding value to your life without having to pay anything more out of your pocket than than the cost of the product or service you may have purchased anyway. And besides, supporting a useful business, any commissions received will help keep this site up and running, enabling us to continue to provide meaningful content.

While not every link on this site is an affiliate link, it is safest to assume that any link you follow within ThrivingIntoRetirement.com could be an affiliate link.

For example, if I review a book that I found particularly helpful, somewhere in that product review, I may include a link to Amazon.com to make it easy for you to purchase the book for yourself. If you do that, ThrivingIntoRetirement.com will receive a tiny commission for that--again, at no additional cost to you. Speaking of Amazon.com, since I am a member of the Amazon affiliate program, I am required to include this statement:  “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.”

It is also worth noting that I will only provide affiliate links to products and services I feel confident endorsing because my own experience with that product or service has been positive. To revisit the previous example, if I review a book that did not meet my expectations, I will not provide an affiliate link to that book. Even though ThrivingIntoRetirement.com is a business, one of the primary drivers for the business is to help people, and it is most decidedly NOT helpful to peddle crappy goods and services just to try to make a few cents. My first priority for this business is and will always be to provide you resources to enable you to set yourself up for an awesome retirement.

One slight exception to the guideline that I will only provide affiliate links to products and services with which I have experience might be when I have done considerable research to prepare for purchasing a product or service, but for a variety of reasons, am unable to do so right away. For example, if I have researched which two theme parks in Orlando, FL, I intend to visit when I go there later this year, I may articulate my reasons for the decisions I have made. If it is possible to provide an affiliate link associated with my selections, I may do so. If this is the case, I will clearly state that this decision is based on my research and not (yet) from my direct experience. And of course, after the trip, I may write about it in the travel blog and, if I am happy with the selections I made, include an affiliate link.

We cherish community at ThrivingIntoRetirement.com. Like any healthy community, all are entitled to their opinions, and we encourage you to share yours with us via comments. To keep the community healthy and respectful, we ask that you abide by the guidelines listed in this Comment Policy. As such, we reserve the right to delete comments that fail to comply, and further to ban the author from posting any further comments.

First, start with kindness. You don't have to agree with me or other commenters, but you also don't have to be a turd about your disagreement. Don't be offensive or rude, and don't disparage me or anyone else in your comments for any reason, including age, gender, race/ethnicity, religion, country of origin, sexual orientation, or political affiliation.

Also, please use common sense. Don't include comments that do not pertain to the topic at hand. Don't include links trying to sell stuff. Don't include lewd or other inappropriate content. Don't include spam or anything else obnoxious like that.

And to keep anyone from hiding bad behavior behind anonymity (an existential threat to civil discourse), please use your real FIRST name (only) and a real email address when submitting your comment. If you don't do this it may not even make it to me, and even if it does, I will most likely delete it without responding.
